New York Fashion Week round-up

American fashion triumphs when it comes to casualwear and the New York spring summer 2014 collections showed a strong sport-chic influence. Tennis was a recurring theme, as seen at Alexander Wang and Tess Giberson, and the colour white shone through and was emphasized with lightness and pale shades in most of the collections.

Cropped tops made a return from this season and the bra top and cropped shell top, which was introduced during the spring 2013 collections, could be seen with sheer fabrics, either mixed or urban like a sporty sweatshirt.

Skirts and dresses came longer, below the knee, as a key silhouette, though they came with slits, splits and bias cuts. Maxi was not a major trend, more directional were dresses with sporty crewnecks, again the tennis theme, or with exaggerated shoulders and double layered effects.

The 1990s were a definite source of inspiration on the New York catwalks, and will surely continue to be seen at the London Fashion Week shows.
