British-born American Vogue editor Anna Wintour has received one of France's highest accolades, the Legion d'Honneur, receiving the medal from French President Nicolas Sarkozy,

Prior to Ms. Wintour, several designers have been honoured with the distinction. In 1993 the French minister of culture had made Sonia Rykiel "Officier des Lettres et des Ordres". Three years later, the same acceded to the rank of Officier de l'Ordre National and the Legion d'Honneur. In July 2010, the honor was given to Ralph Lauren in recognition of his career in fashion. John Galliano was also a recipient of the award.
