New autumn fashion boosts John Lewis' sales

New arrivals of the autumn collections spurred a stellar sales week at John Lewis. The high street retailer saw sales rise 5 percent year-on-year to 75.77 million pounds the week to 12 September.

Online sales were up 17.5 percent, while Fashion was up 8.7 percent overall with Childrenswear and Nursery witnessing the highest growth across the categories, noted buying director Johnathan Marsh
.

He said the lower temperatures and arrival of autumn drove the cold weather assortments up on last year, with the new Own Brand assortments performing particularly well across Menswear and Womenswear.

“We also received a fabulous customer reaction to the launch of the new Bruce Oldfield collection which bodes well for the season ahead,” he stressed.

Marsh added: “Following the softer August trading conditions we are buoyed by the start to September and the rate at which our newness is growing within the assortment.
