John Lewis to open London convenience store

John Lewis is opening its first convenience store, to test a new method of delivering goods to shoppers.

The department store chain will open a small shop in London's St Pancras Station, where customers can also collect online orders as they commute.

Click and collect is already a popular option with the retailer's clientele, accounting for 33 percent of internet sales.

If the store proves successful, the company says it may launch similar branches at stations across the UK.

"Click and collect" accounts for almost a fifth of all online sales for retailers with physical stores and websites - a figure that has quadrupled in just three years.
