Inditex nine month net sales up 5 percent

REPORT _ Inditex net sales rose by 5 percent in the first nine months of 2013 –from February 1 to October 31. Net sales in local currencies grew by 8 percent. Like-for-like sales growth remains strong. Net income totalled 1.67 billion euros, representing year-on-year growth of 1 percent. In the past twelve months, Inditex has created more than 8,000 new jobs around the world, around 800 of which are in Spain.

During the first nine months of 2013 Inditex opened 240 net larger new stores in 54 markets. The group enlarged more than 100 flagship stores and rolled out new images at key locations. The most recent projects include refurbishments of Zara stores in New York, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Beijing and Shanghai.

The group continued to expand its online platform in the third quarter of 2013, deploying the online stores for five of the Inditex sales formats in Russia. Zara plans to launch e-commerce operations in South Korea and Mexico next year.
