A research from VoucherCodes.co.uk unveils the connection between how far the England team make it in the upcoming FIFA World Cup and how much will be spent on mobile and online, consequently benefiting national e-tailers.
If England makes it to the second stage of the World Cup in mid-June, the spent on mobile transactions in the UK will reach 38 million pounds. This is one of the findings from the last research conducted by VoucherCodes.co.uk. In the case of England making it to the finals that figure will more than double to 79 million pounds, highlighted ‘BizReport’.
"The World Cup is going to be the biggest retail event in 2014, providing an expected 1.3 billion pounds boost for UK retailers, pubs and clubs," said Claire Davenport, managing director at VoucherCodes.co.uk.
Similarly, as fans spend more time at home watching the games on television, or on other devices such as tablets or laptops, Internet retailers will see an additional 174.71 million pounds being spent online, mostly in home deliveries.
Overall, the World Cup is estimated to generate a 1.3 billion pounds sales boost for UK retailers, pubs and restaurants if England makes it through the second round rising to 2.58 billion pounds if England makes it to the final.
