Reliance Brands appoints new CIO to drive e-commerce biz

Reliance Brands, the wholly-owned arm of Reliance Industries appointed Cleartrip’s COO P K X Thomas as its CIO – ecommerce, hinting at its plans to make a serious effort in the e-commerce segment. Founded in 2007, Reliance Brand completed five years this September. Dedicated to bringing iconic international brands like Diesel , Paul & Shark, Timberland, Ermenegildo Zegna, Quiksilver and Roxy, DC Shoes, Steve Madden, Hamleys, Kenneth Cole, Thomas Pink and Brooks Brothers to India, the company now plans to build a separate portal for each brand.

Thomas has almost 20 years of experience with six years of experience in Cleartrip as CTO (Chief Technical Officer) and later as COO (Chief Operating Officer). Apparel is gradually becoming the most sought after category online. According to Comscore, apparel has been the fastest growing subcategory in retail and reaches 13.4 per cent online users in India. A study by Technopak also reveals that apparel segment will grow almost ten-fold to nearly Rs 7,000 crores by 2015.
