Edun, the ethical men’s and womenswear brand founded by Ali Hewson and her husband Bono, has named Julien Labat as its new chief executive officer, effective May 1.
Labat, former Carven commercial director, succeeds Janice Sullivan who is stepping down from the role after five years to pursue “other business interests”, including working as a consultant for Edun investors LVMH.
As CEO he will be responsible for overseeing global distribution, managing the mostly African-based production, and the design and production teams based in New York, and will report to the Edun board in Dublin.
Founded in 2005, Edun was created with the aim of encouraging trade and manufacturing in Africa. In 2009, LVMH acquired a minority stake in the business. The label is currently sold worldwide through major department stores including Liberty, Galeries Lafayette, Colette and Neiman Marcus, and from autumn it will be available on Net-a-Porter.com.
