Stella McCartney scholarship programmeTuesday, 24 July 2012
Designer Stella McCartney announced that she will fund scholarships for exceptional students on Central Saint Martins's MA Fashion course.
The designer who graduated in 1995 from Central Saint Martins (CSM), remembers that time as being “life changing”. However, she believes it is very difficult for young talents to get into such prestige schools, which is what inspired her to set up a scholarship program, hoping many other fashion houses will follow her steps.
The scholarship will include housing for EU and international MA Fashion students on the basis of academic excellence and financial needs. The program will also include a one year paid placement at Stella McCartney fashion house.
The sum offered by the designer will be £25,000 per year but it is not yet known how many students will benefit from this aid.
This October the first scholarships will be awarded, and the sponsors of this programme will have to commit to the designer’s strict no fur, leather or any other animal products policy.
Central Saint Martins MA Fashion course has been home to great designers such as Alexander McQueen, Jonathan Saunders, Christopher Kane and Phoebe Philo.
