Stella McCartney appeals to fashion schools about fur and leather production

Stella McCartney, fashion designer and supporter of animal protection organisation PETA, takes the Berlin Fashion Week as opportunity to illuminate young designers about the production of fur and leather.

Beforehand, she wrote a letter to the Berlin located fashion schools ESMOD and AMD, offering to address the ethical conscious of the lecturers and young designers with help of PETA-videos regarding the topic fur and leather production. Thereby she appealed to professors and lecturers to include background information about the leather and fur production into their course content.

The british designer, that follows a vegetarian lifestyle her whole life, never used fur or leather in her acclaimed collections. “Nowadays it is without doubt possible to produce wonderful coats, attractive shoes and It-bags made of artificial leather or snake skin imitation, no animal has to die for,” she wrote in the letter.
