Red Mutha was established in 1994.Ever since we have been specialising in creating one-off, customised, recycled vintage garments for those who dare to wear them.
We source our garments to be rejuvenated by blitzing car boot sales, jumbles and from our network of quality second hand dealers throughout the uk.This way of working and being ecologically sound is our passion and obsession.
Skirts,shirts and blazers are ripped,picked and stitched.Corsets,hats and tees are deconstructed and transformed.Bags,belts and blouses are slashed, trashed and re-hashed.Dresses,vests and jackets are torn,adorned and re-born. At our workshop beneath our Brighton Boutique our highly trained team of monkeys have all the tools and material to create all our lines in an atmosphere of freedom and experimentation.Because of the one off nature of our clothes we are continually updating and adjusting current designs and inventing new ones.Our small,multi-skilled team of creative sewers can adjust and modify our designs as the seasons change.We tailor every order to the different specifications of each individual stockist,wether it’s urban cool for London or a classic english twist needed for Beijing,the unique requirements of our stockists and their clientele are paramount.
We also offer a personal customisation service where anyone can send in their garments for a bespoke makeover. If a clients wardrobe is full of unloved,unmworn or unwearable items we can transform them into something to treasure.Clients just send us a garment to be customised sometimes with their old brownie badges,bits of their baby blankys, badges etc that they cherish and we can reinvent and remix these items into a current garment personalised to them.

Red Mutha appeared on ch4’s Wifeswap series where Red ended up on a small farm and Nadine Pinchin stepped into Red’s shoes which she truly loved!Our episode was dubbed ‘the one where they all get along’,a testament to the positive ambience that surrounds the company.
Red Mutha have dressed many celebrities as diverse as Liam Gallagher,Katie price,Westlife,Skinny Man,Patsy Palmer,Brandon Block,Jodie Marsh,the list goes on...
Red Mutha is the centre piece of the Clothes Show Lives ‘off beat boutique’ and we are consulted as to the running of this super cool section of the show every year and we always have a large amount of our clothing in the large scale fashion theatre show there.
Red Mutha also host large scale independant label fashion fairs.Promoting the work of young designers as well as more established brands at the Fabrica Gallery,Duke St,brighton.These events have been running since 2006 and provide an affordable outlet for people to meet and sell to their public.
Every year we hit the festival trail and we are the only clothing company who traded at the Bestival festival on the isle of white as our fun dressing philosophy is so in keeping with their revellers.We also attend NASS,Glade,Pride,Beachdown (where we have our own Red Mutha Boutique Shopping Marquee) and the Big Chill as well as many other small independant fashion events across the country.
We also encourage links with the local community by helping out with any fashion shows we can and offering work placements for young people from local schools whenever possible.Thus promoting the Red Mutha recycling message ethos.We also offer workshops where we can hands on show people how to customise.We also set up guerrilla fashion shows and mini boutiques in nightclubs/fashion events.
March –April 09 Red Mutha have a residency at the Quartier 21 museum in Vienna.We have sent out various candidates in our name to go promote Red Mutha to the people of Austria.This far this has been hugely successful and we now plan other residencies across Europe.
The other events Red Mutha organise are ‘Red Mutha under 10s Kids Raves’ (see facebook group of the same name).These events are aimed at children and parents to come along,dance,draw,dress up and giggle!We have high profile dj sets from celebrity dj’s who bring their kids along to join in the fun.We run these in Brighton but have plans to do them across the country.
