Gucci sustainable footwear soles Italian fashion house Gucci has announced the launch of Sustainable Soles, a special edition of eco- friendly women’s and men’s shoes designed by Creative Director Frida Giannini, which will form part of the label’s prefall 2012 collection.

The new collection is part of the fashion brand’s mission to ‘interpret in a responsible way the modern consumer’s desire for sustainable fashion products’, and was confirmed at the latest edition of the Copenhagen Fashion Summit, the conference on sustainability and fashion, dedicated to the future of green style.

The Sustainable Soles collection, which hit stores at the end of June, includes the Marola Green ballerinas and the California Green men’s sneakers, both of which have been made in bio-plastic - a biodegradable material in compost used as an alternative to petrochemical plastic.

The Marola Green flat ballerina features cut out details and Gucci’s trademark interlocking Gs, and will be available in the polished tones of blush, taupe, and black.
