Last Thursday night during ‘Lichting’ (Dutch for class of) 2012 Yvonne Kwok of the Amsterdam Fashion Institute (AMFI) was awarded with the G-Star Raw Talent Award, worth 10,000 euros. By the international jury - 
including Margeretha van den Bosch (Creative Advisor at H&M) and Marieke van Dongen (senior designer at Raf Simons) - and votes of prominent Dutch buyers, stylists and journalists, Kwok was chosen out of the fourteen representatives of the seven Dutch fashion academies as the most promising design talent of this year.The award, an initiative of denim brand G-Star to bridge the gap between fashion schools and the industry, was awarded for the sixth time during Amsterdam Fashion Week.
Yvonne Kwok, a former intern at fashion duo Viktor & Rolf, was inspired for her collection by the mental struggle that designers feel because of the restrictions that apply within the fashion world. These restrictions gave her the idea of a?? marionette dancing to someone’s tune. The result was a playful, carnivalesque collection where comfort was combined with experimental craft techniques.
