Second Life is no longer only the home to computer nerds and geeks. More then eight million people are taking part of the virtual world, a community that is growing every day. Linden Research developed and launched Second Life in 2003 with its own currency, the Linden Dollar. For one Dollar you can buy 240 Linden Dollar. Everyone can take part in Second Life and be who ever they would like to be. As an inhabitant, also referred to as avatar, you can make your dreams come true and buy as many must-haves of the season of your favourite brands.

Second Life is growing every day and the interest of fashion companies seem to increase. Recently American Apparel opened a shop, Calvin Klein launched its new perfume Ckin2U and designer pieces by Dior can also be purchased in the online world.

Initially anyone who knows how to work with Photoshop could create its own fashion collection. Regardless not everyone has a natural sense for style when it comes down to fashion and copyright is actually applicable in Second Life. Similar to the real world fashion stylists and blogs can give you guidance.

Looking at the many fashion companies that have signed up to Second Life and launched their products, the fashion industry should take the virtual world into consideration in their marketing strategies and trend reports. It also could use the internet world as a testing ground for new products.

At the moment young designers aren’t that keen on presenting their collections on Second Life as yet. An article on Second Life’s style page lindenllifestyles.com encourages new designers to come on board. The site features a detailed article how new talent can promote themselves within Second Life and the blog circuit covering fashion and shopping to boost their virtual image.
