The Garment Industry Development Corporation (GIDC) announced the launch of Showroom New York.

Motivated by GIDC's mission to strengthen the local apparel industry and help maintain New York City's position as a global fashion capital, Showroom New York will provide support and services to local designers that are in the early phases of creating and running their companies.

Showroom New York is the first of its kind in New York, harvesting and nurturing young talent in a non profit spirit. One of the main requirements for submission into the showroom is manufacturing in New York. The showroom creates a platform for local, up and coming designers and offers them an experienced sales team, promotional support and sourcing.

Founded two decades ago as an industry-wide partnership between government, business, and labor, GIDC has become the place where design meets production, linking designers, labels, retailers and New York's high quality manufacturers. Among its services are the providing of sourcing and marketing functions, young designer support, training and technical assistance, buyer referrals, and job development. GIDC has assisted hundreds of emerging designers through their Young Designer Program as well as apparel firms and designers like the Gap, Alice Roi, David Rodriguez, and the Limited, and has trained thousands of New York garment workers.

The showroom will be opened officially on December 11, and is located on at 202 West 40th Street.
