Celebrating her 20 years in business, Donna Karan showed her Spring 2009 collection at New York Fashion Week. Opening with a hommage
to New York City; a video montage of the city street scenes and practical ‘streetwear’-like outfits. Many zippers and hoods, minidresses as well as large jersey bloused dresses. Colours were optimistic and very eighties with lots of neon.
Even though the collection itself was not too festive, the quantity was. An abundance of models, who had to change at least twice each during the show. Some strikingly thin, others with a little more flesh on their legs (and still wearing minidresses). Karan herself stayed onstage longer than any other designer does, waiting for the song ‘Happy Birthday To You’ to finish whilst an exodus of models ran the catwalk showing this seasons and previous seasons highlights.
