High street tycoon Philip Green knows a thing or two about making a profit, and his partnership with the Kate Moss fashion range at Topshop was guaranteed to be a financial hit. According to the Guardian, the collection generated sales of around £3m in its first week, exceeding Topshop's initial targets.

Thousands of shoppers and fans queued outside Topshop's flagship London store for the April 30 launch to be the first to own one of Kate's designs and to catch a glimpse of the supermodel, who made a brief appearance in one of the store's windows wearing a red floor length dress.

Describing the £3m sales generated in the first week in the UK, a Topshop spokeswoman was quoted as saying: "We are really surprised and excited that it was so successful because we have never done any collaboration like this before."

In a report published by Retail Week, the publicity surrounding the launch and achieved editorial was worth an additional £2m to £3m to Topshop.

Kate Moss was paid a reported £3m to create the collection. The range has since been launched in New York last week and Stockholm.
