Sustainable hip during Arnhem Fashion Biennale.
The Arnhem Fashion Biennale 2009 is internationally known for showing the latest trends and in modern fashion. Being one of the biggest fashion shows in the world, it is now the first time that the Biennale takes ‘sustainable fashion' as an important theme. We therefore welcome the Awearness Fair Fashion Event as part of this year's programme. The Awearness Fair Fashion Show – held June 28 in the Eusebius church in Arnhem – is the first fully sustainable catwalk show organised in the Netherlands. Put together by Joke Bom from fair fashion web shop watMooi, the show will be marked by prêt-a-porter, couture and arty designer clothes. With this event, Arnhem – known as fashion and greenest city of the Netherlands – shows that sustainable fashion can be trendy and beautiful at the same time. Being built around the themes: people, environment and innovation the fashion show will create the perfect atmosphere for fashion labels such as M’Braze, Alchemist, Edun, Merunisha Moonilal, Studio Jux, Van Markoviec, Rianne de Witte, Marlon Borgschot and Hedwig Homoet to present their latest collection. Innovative materials such as lyocell, wood pulp, soya, maize, hemp, bamboo and stinging nettle are turned into beautiful clothes like you've never seen before. Catwalk takshow and guerillastore Following on from the fashion show, a catwalk talk show will be organised where key figures from the sustainable fashion industry will discuss their views and experiences around the topics people, environment and innovation. A lively discussion is expected between these speakers and fashion retailers, fair fashion experts, politicians and other policy makers. From June 29 June until July 4, the Awearness Fair Guerrillastore (Turfstraat 1a in Arnhem) will be the place to actually buy fair clothing, unique bags and accessories from recycled material. Young designers will be on spot to turn old pieces of clothing into a new, original piece. In addition, workshops will be given by writers club Loesje and the StoereVrouwen will be present to give sustainable shopping tips.
