Old Levi’s jeans, found in a paper bag in an abandoned California gold mine, sold for $36,099 on eBay last week. The pair of jeans dated from the 1890’s and were “covered in candlewax from the candles the miner was using to light the tunnel he was working in” according to the unidentified seller.

The starting bid was $9.99 and quickly skyrocketed to the winning amount.

Levi’s company historian (yes, when a company is that old, there is a company historian) Lynn Downey told WWD that the jeans appeared to be a pair of Levi’s 201 jeans.
